Daylight-Savings has Done it Again!

It gets me every time. Unless you’re glued to network television, listen to the radio nonstop, or have a real paper calendar, you are completely unaware of the whole “spring forward” thing until it screws up your day. I am a night owl, due to my 2nd-shift job, so I was awake during the switch. Around 2am Saturday night (Sunday morning, technically) manfriend and I decided to run up to Meijer for a quick meal (it was either that or Awful Waffle). So we picked up a box of taquitos and salad, a cherry pie and some cinnamon ice-cream. When we got home and went to put the pie in, it was already 4:15am! Where had the time gone?? Oh. Dammit daylight savings! Then today, on my way in to the station, I panicked halfway down the highway because I looked at my car clock and thought I was running an hour early. Internal dialogue went a little like “OH CRAP! I could be sleeping right no– oh. Dammit daylight savings!” It got me twice, but the issue won’t drop until it happens a third time.. so, there’s that to look forward to… stupid daylight savings….

On the front of Rawk Nooz today….Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck singled out Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” at a political rally as an example of the progressive politics he opposes. Beck read a verse from the 1984 hit, then denounced the subject of the song as unpatriotic. Beck said, “That’s what it’s all about. That’s what America’s all about, according to Springsteen. . . . It’s time for us to wake, wake up, out of our, um, dream state. Wake up out of the propaganda.” Right, Beck. Bruce Springsteen’s hit in 1984 is what’s wrong with the world today. I don’t think he actually read all of the lyrics and took time to interpret them, especially with the current affairs of the early ’80s in mind. That would be like saying “American Pie” is the anti-Christ because it questions faith in God. It drives me nuts when journalists don’t do their homework and take a single phrase out of context to boost their own political agenda. Enough with that rant; it’s irrelephant.

In local entertainment news, Fox 19 is helping the hit show “Glee” find two new cast members! More info here. Should I audition???

I wish I were so awesome, even I could make holding cotton-candy look epic.

Alice in Wonderland, Math and you!

I have worn glasses for over a decade. If I ever lose my sight completely, maybe I’ll still be able to see with my tongue.

This speaks too close to home….

That’s about enough for this week in radio. I’ll leave you with more humor about saving daylight.
