THE
2007 FALL PLEDGE DRIVE
Thousands of you listen to ClassX; how many of you
have actually contributed to us?
We are
comprised
of volunteers (almost two dozen of them). That's
right, no one gets paid. But we would like to
change that. In order to grow, ClassX
needs the income to be able to hire a few key staff
members who can help us do more. Yeah we wish we
could have become a commercial station (they are
located on channels above 91.9 on the dial), but we
couldn't. We simply didn't have an extra $18
million lying
around (that's what the last one sold for in the
Cincinnati market). Not to mention that there are
simply no new frequencies left in Cincinnati. With
that said, it came down to either leaving the boring
Cincinnati radio dial as it is or taking the option
of applying for 88.9 at the FCC and giving the
Tri-State a completely fresh and new format that the
Tri-State has not experienced in over 20 years. Having
it non-commercial, it is better than not having
it at all, right? So we bit the bullet and went for
it back in 1999. After an 8-year wait and difficulty beyond belief that you don't want to
hear about, we were finally granted the License to
build and operate WMWX (and WRHX 107.9 in Richwood,
KY, 97.7 in Walton, KY). We are thrilled that you
have accepted us and love us. We know you do
because we get your calls and emails every single
day. For that we cannot thank you enough.
Thanks to all for your consideration and above all thanks for welcoming us into your community and your hearts.

BREAKING NEWS - WEB RADIO WON? At 7/12/2007's Congressional hearing about the new rates for online radio that would essentially destroy it, SoundExchange made a startling statement. The SoundExchange executives promised, in front of Congress, that SoundExchange will not enforce the new royalty rates. Webcasters will stay online, as new rates are hammered out. More HERE. |

Webstream Might Be Forced Off The Web If You Don't
Help! Please Read and then Sign The Petition! By now we hope that you have enjoyed our webstream. We sure have! Please take a few minutes to read this Paradise Radio article for a full explanation of how new web broadcast copyright royalty rates will certainly force us to drop our stream. After reading the article please SIGN the online PETITION to make our Congress wake up and change these rules. Here is another RAIN NEWSLETTER you can read for more information on what the ClassX webstream is facing. OK, so you want a plain English translation? The new rules will force ClassX to pay an absolute minimum of $500 per month in royalty fees. So why is this a problem? ClassX is a non commercial radio station owned and operated by a local non-profit corporation. We simply can not afford these rates in addition to the $2000 per year that we already pay ASCAP, BMI & SESAC licensing agencies. Not to mention our ISP who hosts our audio stream and what we pay them. Then there are the new record keeping requirements where we would have to keep track of EVERY SINGLE SONG that we play and report it to Sound Exchange. That's another salary to pay for record keeping. It simply does not make any sense. It all comes down to greed and lack of good judgment. Without radio the music would not get any exposure, CD & download sales would plummet, songwriters and performers would not get paid, radio stations will shut down and the music industry would more than likely cease to exist as we know it. Aren't the songwriters and and performers already getting paid enough? What do you think? |
