How We Were Established:

Class
X is a result of a station originally called Free Radio 105.5, birthed in 1997.  Free Radio's Bill Spry became involved in working to change the rules at the FCC to would allow licenses for low-power radio stations.  After several years of work, the low-power FM (LPFM) service was approved in 2000.

Class
X signed on with it's original flagship station, 107.9 WRHX-LP in Northern Kentucky, in September 2005.  We took on another affiliate station, in Indiana, in January 2006.

Meanwhile, Spry's non-profit OH Corporation, Spryex Communications, Inc. which had applied for a Cincinnati frequency (88.9) had also been waiting on the FCC for a full-power non-commercial radio station license, the last available remaining in the Cincinnati market.  In June 2006, the Construction Permit for 88.9 FM was approved.  Class
X signed on to nearly 5,000 watts in the Cincinnati area in summer 2006, reaching potentially 1.8 million listeners.

Along with the new higher-powered Class
X came a slight change in the format.  No longer would listeners hear the same bubblegum crap on those other Classic Hits stations.  ClassX was now playing Album Rock: a mix of New Melodic Album Rock releases combined with lost Classic Rock tracks from the past 40 years.
